Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the Postdoctoral Master's Degree Program in clinical and translational science, applicants must:

  • Be employed at Mayo Clinic.
    • Your appointment, which is documented at the time of application, must be of sufficient length to allow for completion of all requirements of the program.
    • Applicants who have a confirmed appointment but are not yet working at Mayo Clinic should include documentation of the appointment with the application.
    • Candidates for the Postdoctoral Master's Degree Program must complete a minimum period of one year in residence after admission to the degree program.
    • Visiting research fellows are eligible.
    • Visiting clinicians and research trainees are not eligible.
  • Have a doctoral degree in a discipline applicable to clinical research.
    • Applicable degrees include: M.D.; Ph.D.; M.B.B.S.; M.B., Ch.B.; Dr. P.H.; D.O.; D.D.S.; D.M.D.; O.D.; D.C.; Pharm.D.; and Psy.D. Other degrees may be considered.
    • In addition to clinicians, also encouraged to apply are biostatisticians, epidemiologists, behavioral scientists and nurses with doctoral degrees.
    • Preference is given to applicants with a doctoral GPA of greater than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
    • Up to six credits taken at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Science can be completed prior to program admission. If more than six credits have been taken, they may not count toward program completion.
    • Successful applicants and their home departments or sponsors must demonstrate sufficient protected time to meet all program milestones.
  • Identify a mentor.
    • The mentor must be an investigator at Mayo Clinic with extensive clinical or translational research experience.
    • The mentor must meet or have met the criteria for, master- or full- level faculty privileges, hold an academic rank of associate professor or higher, have demonstrated NIH or R01 funding, and have successful experience publishing and mentoring scholars.
  • Be pursuing a clinical and translational research project that will lead to improvements in human health. This includes:
    • Epidemiological and natural history studies.
    • Translational research.
    • Patient-oriented research.
    • Clinical trials.
    • Outcomes research.
