Midwest Area Research Consortium for Health

Midwest Area Research Consortium for Health (MARCH) is a collaborative research network of six Midwest Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) institutions, including Indiana University, Mayo Clinic, Medical College of Wisconsin, The Ohio State University, University of Minnesota and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The mission of MARCH is to improve health through collaborative multidisciplinary clinical research and integration of evidence into clinical practice by:

  • Fostering new or improved inter-institutional multidisciplinary research collaborations between CTSA sites and their representative investigators across the Midwest
  • Promoting inter-institutional exchange of best practices in research and utilizing and sharing resources available for collaborative and efficient regulatory and fiscal processes
  • Maintaining a collaborative infrastructure that enhances institutional capacity to effectively perform studies in rare diseases as well as across populations that are very large and/or of varied demography
  • Increasing cross-disciplinary exploration and discovery
  • Contributing to closing the gap in health disparities
  • Facilitating development of scientific advances that will improve health care

A MARCH collaboration helps optimize your research

Quality

  • CTSA-funded sites known for cutting-edge, performance-driven research
  • Access to multidisciplinary thought leader investigators and study teams
  • Dedicated and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)-trained personnel at each performance site
  • Established standard operating procedures for quality assurance
  • Consistent and effective communication among MARCH leadership and study teams
  • Mission consistent with national research goals of regionalization and collaboration
  • All sites have accreditation from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP)

Efficiency

  • Effective administration and coordination mechanisms through a centralized model
  • Standardized data management across sites via clinical trial management system software
  • Streamlined regulatory approval process providing one institutional review board (IRB) of record
  • Simplified fiscal management: One contract, one budget, one contact
  • Recruitment across multiple Midwest sites optimizing accrual success, particularly in studies of rare disease states or those that require an inordinately large sample size

Geographic reach and diverse demography

  • Geographic reach of ethnic and socioeconomic representation across the Midwest
  • Collective power of large and diverse subject populations from academic institutions across multiple states facilitating rapid enrollment

University of Minnesota Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI)

The Translational Product Development Fund (TPDF) supports the advancement of projects that have the potential to be commercialized, such as projects that aim to form a start-up company or create a license agreement with an established commercial entity.

The University of Minnesota CTSI and the Mayo Clinic Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS) established TPDF in conjunction with the Minnesota Partnership for Biotechnology and Medical Genomics. Ultimately, the program aims to impact the lives of Minnesotans by translating research discoveries into new therapies and treatment approaches for patients.

All full-time University of Minnesota faculty (all campuses) and Mayo Clinic investigators (associate consultants to consultants) at the Rochester, Minnesota, campus are eligible.

Applications are closed for 2015.

University of Mississippi Medical Center and Mayo Clinic collaborate in clinical trials

Mayo Clinic and the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) signed an agreement to broaden and deepen their collaboration in clinical trials, other medical research and education. The agreement is a formal commitment to enhance the relationship that has been steadily building for the past 20 years.

The agreement will coordinate ongoing and new complementary goals of both organizations. In the future, the closer ties between Mayo and UMMC are expected to lead to new, cutting-edge collaborations. Read more.
