The Mayo Clinic Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS) supports a wide range of consultative resources, facilities and funding opportunities related to clinical research.
Clinical Research Unit
The Clinical Research and Trials Unit (CRTU) offers investigators physical facilities in which to conduct patient-oriented research. With a facility at both campuses of Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester, plus mobile staff and a unique research vehicle, the CRTU supports more than 400 inpatient and outpatient research studies each year.
Laboratories
CCaTS supports 10 shared/core laboratories, which offer specialty services and expertise in areas from autonomic physiology to body composition to metabolomics. These laboratories continually add and develop new technologies and techniques to meet the evolving needs of Mayo investigators.
Consultative resources
Consultative resources are located on the third floor of the Plummer Building and are available at no cost to all Mayo Clinic investigators. Get assistance with biostatistics, epidemiology and research design; research volunteer recruitment; REDCap data management tools; research ethics; and more.
Funding opportunities
Several funding opportunities made possible by CCaTS funds are available to both junior and established Mayo Clinic investigators.
i2b2: Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside
The i2B2 tool is a scalable informatics framework that organizes and transforms patient-related data to optimize the data for numerous types and stages of clinical research. It's used for feasibility studies, study design and eligibility, patient recruitment, population health research, and more.
Trial Innovation Network: Resources for multisite clinical trials
The Trial Innovation Network is a new, collaborative initiative from the National Institutes of Health that provides trial planning and execution resources for researchers conducting multicenter trials.
The Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS) serves as Mayo Clinic's liaison for the program. Investigators with multicenter trial ideas are encouraged to contact CCaTS to discuss the resources available and the process for engaging the Trial Innovation Network.
