Community Engagement Studios

Community Engagement Studios provide a framework for researchers to work directly with community members, patients, caregivers and other individuals to get meaningful insight on the planning, design, implementation, translation or dissemination of the research.

Benefits of Community Engagement Studios:

  • Researchers can get consultation, guidance and advice directly from the target population.
  • Community experts with a particular lived experience get to hear firsthand about research that will impact others with similar lived experiences.
  • The bidirectional conversation creates a stronger relationship between the researchers and the communities they are interested in working with.

The Community Engagement Studios model was originally developed by the Vanderbilt Institute for Clinical and Translational Research and was included in an Academic Medicine innovation report.
