Cardiovasology Training Program

Director

Terzic, Andre M.D., Ph.D.

Summary

Award number — T32 HL07111

The Cardiovasology Training Program at Mayo Clinic addresses national needs in developing, diversifying and sustaining the next-generation workforce in cardiovascular science and medicine, from which new leaders in this multidisciplinary field will emerge.

Heart failure is the central theme, informed by morbidity and mortality trends. The program aims to arm trainees with the know-how and readiness needed to apply scientific advances to combat heart disease.

Evolution in biosciences mandates learning strategies that integrate advances in biology and the data-rich flow of information to develop innovative solutions in health care. The Cardiovasology Training Program builds on Mayo Clinic's legacy of excellence, with objectives, training design, mentoring plans, an expert faculty, and research projects to equip trainees with the competencies to drive the future of biomedical research and guide best practices for the betterment of human health.

Trainees engage in faculty-directed programs and acquire new skills that will differentiate them for long-term careers in cardiovascular science and medicine, equipped with next-generation biomedical know-how and entrepreneurial acumen. Training opportunities span four tracks:

  • Discovery sciences
  • Translational sciences
  • Clinical sciences
  • Population and outcomes sciences

The program emphasizes providing trainees with new technical skills, emerging tools, and advanced competencies of contemporary biology, biomedical informatics, artificial intelligence and virtual reality. Proficiency in product development, regulatory science and biobusiness complement the technical skill set.
