Understanding Facilitators and Barriers that Impact Capacity and Workload for Caregivers of Metastatic Cancer Patients

The purpose of t his study is to better understand what caregivers encounter during the care of their loved ones, what they identify as facilitators and barriers, and what impacts their capacity to provide such care – an informing component to the science of healthcare delivery. Also, to identify practical issues related to caregivers’ capacity, both objective and subjective, beyond the existence of healthcare and educational resources often available in clinical settings.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults ≥18 year old individuals who are identified as caregivers of patients with metastatic cancer receiving palliative care and being treated at Mayo Clinic Florida.
  • The caregivers might be family members or designated/legal guardians or proxies of the patient who will be identified by clinicians at the Palliative Care Division within the Department of Family Medicine or by the Cancer Center at Mayo Clinic Florida.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Non-English speaking individuals
  • Legally blind and hearing impaired 
  • Unable to provide consent.
