A Study to Isolate and Culture Bacteria from the Uterus that have been Connected to Endometrial Cancer

The purpose of this study is to anaerobically (completely without oxygen) isolate and culture the bacteria species from the uterus that are believed to be associated with endometrial (the lining of the uterus) cancer. This will allow further tests to assess interactons between the bacteria, and between the bacteria and the host cells.

Elegibilidad para la participación

Inclusion Critieria

  • Female
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Is undergoing a hysterectomy by any standard surgical approach
  • Is undergoing a hysterectomy for endometrial hyperplasia, or biopsy proven endometrial cancer

Exclusion Criteria  

  • Is pregnant or nursing
  • Currently taking or has taken antibiotics in the past 2 weeks
  • Surgeon anticipates the use of a morcellator during the hysterectomy procedure, due to the size of the uterus or for any other reason
