A Study to Isolate and Culture Bacteria from the Uterus that have been Connected to Endometrial Cancer

About this study

The purpose of this study is to anaerobically (completely without oxygen) isolate and culture the bacteria species from the uterus that are believed to be associated with endometrial (the lining of the uterus) cancer. This will allow further tests to assess interactons between the bacteria, and between the bacteria and the host cells.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Critieria

Female
18 years of age or older
Is undergoing a hysterectomy by any standard surgical approach
Is undergoing a hysterectomy for endometrial hyperplasia, or biopsy proven endometrial cancer

Exclusion Criteria

Is pregnant or nursing
Currently taking or has taken antibiotics in the past 2 weeks
Surgeon anticipates the use of a morcellator during the hysterectomy procedure, due to the size of the uterus or for any other reason
