Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design (BERD) Resource

The BERD Resource integrates biostatistics, epidemiology and research design services within the Mayo Clinic Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS) and nationally throughout the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Consortium.

The Mayo Clinic CCaTS BERD Resource goal is to support clinical and translational scientists by providing accessible consultative resources and innovative educational offerings, and by developing new methodologies and tools, that advance clinical and translational science. This includes:

  1. Being accessible at all stages of research, particularly during the conceptualization and design of research projects and protocols
  2. Connecting researchers to long-term collaborative relationships
  3. Providing educational opportunities to reinforce sounds research practices while providing a platform for professional growth for investigators and all staff involved in research
  4. Developing and disseminating novel methodology and tools applicable to clinical and translational research
  5. Developing, validating and integrating research designs and statistical methodologies essential to clinical and translational studies
  6. Reducing bias through appropriate study design and measurement
  7. Developing innovative methods of enhancing the power of studies
  8. Developing design and analysis plans for studies of unique or vulnerable populations or very small numbers of subjects
  9. Developing design and analysis plans for qualitative research projects
