A Study to Compare Intravesical Therapy and Surgery to Treat Bladder Cancer Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of CISTO is to conduct a large prospective study that directly compares the impact of medical management versus bladder removal in recurrent high-grade NMIBC patients with BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) failure on clinical outcomes and patient and caregiver experience using standardized patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Bladder cancer is the most common urinary tract cancer and the 5th most common cancer in the US. Yet bladder cancer research is underfunded relative to other common cancers. As a result, bladder cancer care is prone to evidence gaps that produce decision uncertainty for both patients and clinicians. The Comparison of Intravesical Therapy and Surgery as Treatment Options (CISTO) for Bladder Cancer Study has the potential to fill these critical evidence gaps, change care pathways for the management of NMIBC (non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer), and provide for personalized, patient-centered care. A Bio-bank for Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease Associated Neoplasia Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to collect blood and stool samples to validate and improve the performance of stool and blood DNA markers for inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal neoplasia critical to the long-term goal of improving effectiveness of neoplasia detection in patients using non-invasive biomarkers to assist colonoscopy and radiographic screening. Understanding the Challenges, Behavioral Patterns, and Preferences Towards Participation in Clinical Trials in Minority Patient Populations Jacksonville, Fla., Rochester, Minn., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the challenges, behavioral patterns, and preferences of minority patient participation in clinical trials. Also, to develop and validate a personalized clinical trial educational platform to boost participation among underserved cancer patients. A Study to Establish a Retinoblastoma Patient Clinical Database and Tissue Repository Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to systematically and prospectively record accurate and complete data regarding the clinical presentation, treatment, and outcomes of patients diagnosed with RB; collect, bank, preserve, and analyze biomaterials from patients with RB, and to correlate phenotypic data with findings from human biomaterials. A Study of Response Rate and Survival from Combined Chemotherapy, Surgery and Radiation Therapy for Patients with Malignant Mesothelioma Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to follow patients with malignant mesothelioma of the lung after they have had combined chemotherapy, surgery, and intensity modified radiation therapy and determine response rates and overall survival. Global Cardio Oncology Registry Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to provide a large database and platform for prospective sub-studies and eventually develop additional collaborations with a platform for clinical studies and trials following the initial pilot phase. Blood and Urine Identification of Methylated DNA Markers in Invasive Bladder Carcinoma Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to, in tissue, discover and validate DNA methylation markers (MDMs) for detection of invasive urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. In blood, to assess the accuracy of candidate MDMs from above for detection of invasive urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. In urine, to explore the accuracy of candidate MDMs from above for detection of invasive urothelial carcinoma of the bladder. Diagnostic accuracy on urine can be compared with that on plasma using paired samples. Mayo Clinic Vestibular Schwannoma Quality of Life Index Assessment Rochester, Minn. The purpose of the study is to conduct cognitive testing of the recently published Mayo Clinic Vestibular Schwannoma Quality of Life (VSQOL) Index. Study of a Triple Combination Therapy, DTRM-555, in Patients With R/R CLL or R/R Non-Hodgkin's Lymphomas Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. Targeted drug therapies have greatly improved outcomes for patients with relapsed or refractory (R/R) chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. However, single drug therapies have limitations, therefore, the current study is evaluating a novel oral combination of targeted drugs as a way of overcoming these limitations. This study will determine the effectiveness of the triple combination therapy, DTRM-555, in patients with R/R CLL or R/R non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. A Study of the Bacteria Found in Cancerous and Non-cancerous Breast Tissue Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to see if having different kinds of bacteria genes in breast tissue may be connected to the risk of getting breast cancer. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
