SUMMARY

The research of Sundeep Khosla, M.D., focuses on the mechanisms of age-related bone loss. Dr. Khosla's research group in his Osteoporosis and Bone Biology Laboratory, examines how fundamental aging mechanisms in bone, particularly cellular senescence, lead to increased skeletal fragility. He studies how the aging skeleton interacts with other tissues, including muscle, fat and brain tissues. Dr. Khosla's laboratory has developed a number of genetic models for the clearance of senescent cells globally and in a tissue-specific manner.

His group also has used single-cell proteomic and transcriptomic tools to identify senescent cells in vivo in the bone microenvironment and how these cells interact with immune cells. Dr. Khosla studies the role of senescent cells in tissue repair, specifically fracture healing. In clinical studies, Dr. Khosla performs trials using new approaches to prevent age-related bone loss after menopause.
