Pilot Test of an Electronic Patient-Reported Outcome (ePRO) System to Monitor Post-Surgical Pain Self Management

About this study

The purpose of this study is to develop and pilot test an electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) monitoring and reporting tool for use in post-surgical pain self-management.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Scheduled for surgery (inpatient or outpatient) within the next 14 days.
  • Expected to be discharged to home or self-care (routine discharge). Home health care is acceptable if the purpose is other than pain management.
  • Estimated life expectancy of at least 6 months.
  • Sufficient cognitive function to understand the expectations of the study and provide informed consent.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Admitted from another hospital, skilled nursing facility, home health agency, hospice, or other healthcare institution.
  • Preferred language other than English.
  • Discharge status other than home or self-care (e.g., skilled nursing facility, hospice).
  • Postponement of surgery more than 14 days from the date expected at the time of enrollment.
  • Cancellation of surgery.
  • Unable to receive a survey administered by email and/or IVR.
