A Study to Assess Measurements in Cardiomyopathy Patients Using Software for Multi-level Reconstruction of Three Dimensional Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) or Transthoracic Echocardiography (TTE) Images

About this study

The purpose of this study is to utilize three dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) or 3D transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) to measure various mitral chordal, annular, and leaflet measurements and LV size to better understand the mechanism of regurgitation in patients with FMR.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adults, aged ≥ 18 years.
  • Adult patients referred for clinically-indicated transesophageal echocardiography with an ejection fraction < 50% on prior imaging (cohort).
  • Adult patients referred for clinically-indicated transesophageal echocardiography who have ≤ mild MR, normal mitral leaflets, normal LV size, normal LVEF (> 50%), and normal sinus rhythm (control group).
  • Patients with LV dysfunction (EF ≤ 50%) who will have clinically indicated 2D transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Subjects with poor 3D TEE or 3D TTE images.
  • Patients with congenital heart anomalies.
  • Patients who have moderate or greater aortic regurgitation.
  • Patients who have moderate or greater aortic stenosis.
