SUMMARY

The research interests of Jeremy J. Thaden, M.D., focus primarily on valvular heart disease and the use of echocardiography as a diagnostic and prognostic tool. There is a growing burden of valvular heart disease in economically developed countries and Dr. Thaden is interested in the application of existing and novel echocardiographic techniques to improve diagnosis and management in this group.

Focus areas

  • Valvular heart disease. Dr. Thaden is actively involved in studies evaluating novel techniques (3-D echocardiography, strain imaging, fusion imaging) to improve the diagnosis and management of valvular heart disease. Dr. Thaden also has an additional focus in image guidance for minimally invasive, catheter-based therapies for valvular heart disease.
  • Echocardiographic laboratory quality. Dr. Thaden is committed to research and education efforts to improve the quality and value of echocardiographic examinations. He has previously published and is actively involved in projects looking at the impact of adherence to quality metrics on the quality and reproducibility of echocardiographic examinations.

Significance to patient care

Valvular heart disease is a growing public health problem in economically developed countries, and understanding and treatment options are rapidly evolving.
