Driving Safety in People with Psychogenic, Non-epileptic Seizures

About this study

The purpose of this study is to determine the rate of motor vehicle collisions (MVCs) due to spells in patients diagnosed with psychogenic, non-epilepic seizures (PNES) and compare to those diagnosed with epilepsy and to the general population.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion

All patients admitted to the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at Mayo Clinic Arizona for “spell classification” will be given a brief survey (see attachment) to determine if the individual has ever suffered a spell (seizure or non-epileptic event) while operating a motor vehicle.
