SUMMARY

The research interests of Joseph F. Drazkowski, M.D., consider social determinants of health and quality of life issues for patients with epilepsy. Any research focused on improving quality of life is emphasized, including surgical approaches and treatments. Driving with seizures is a major area of interest as the ability to drive has a significant impact not only on the person with epilepsy, but also on the caregivers and family. The utilization of a surgical technologist and devices is another area of interest for Dr. Drazkowski.

  • Studies. Upcoming studies by Dr. Drazkowski include reviews of the effectiveness of complementary alternative medicines, driving strategies and mitigation, and the impact on quality of life.
  • Device trials. Dr. Drazkowski is continuing to participate in device trials for people with epilepsy and their impact will be maintained as part of his research program.

Significance to patient care

The effective seizure-control management has a direct impact on quality of life for people with epilepsy. New techniques to improve quality of life in relation to patient safety and driving issues, as well as complementary and alternative treatments are current interests.
