Effectiveness of Departmental Education on Reducing 5% Albumin Administration

About this study

The goal of this study is to better understand why anesthesia providers utilize albumin within the operative setting, to the area of clinical specialty, years of service, and position within the anesthesia department. With the knowledge obtained, department wide education will be developed and offered to all anesthesia providers imparting appropriate uses of albumin, based on the current research. 

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria: 

  • All anesthesia providers, [Anesthesiologists (MDAs), Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), Anesthesia Fellows, Anesthesia Residents, Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs)] at Mayo Clinic Rochester
  • All patients who have undergone general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, or monitored anesthesia care for surgeries and procedures in the operative suites, performed at Mayo Clinic Rochester, over the specified 6-month periods of time will make up the subjects for our data-mart retrieval. 

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • There are no exclusion criteria for the anesthesia providers who will be asked to participate in the survey. 
  • Patient data to be excluded includes those receiving albumin anywhere outside of the operative suites/procedural area setting, at Mayo Clinic Rochester and outside of the specified dates.
