Collaborations

The Mayo Clinic Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery brings together unique capabilities. Within the center, teams combine design methods, knowledge management, big data analysis, health care engineering principles and advanced simulations to solve challenges for patients, providers and the health care system at large. The center's goal is to translate discoveries into evidence-based, actionable treatments, processes and procedures.

Team science is integral to research at Mayo, and the center is no exception. Indeed, center collaborations extend beyond the walls of Mayo Clinic in a shared drive for continuous improvement.

The Mayo Clinic Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery collaborates across the entire spectrum of health care. Through these relationships arises a synergy that only comes from having a diverse team.

The center's substantial external collaborative activities include:

  • Accelerating the Use of Evidence-Based Innovation in Health Care Systems. In collaboration with The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice, the center is studying factors that influence the uptake and implementation of innovations in health care — specifically, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on opioid use disorder treatment services. • LHSNet. In collaboration with LHSNet — a patient-centered network of learning health systems — the center is developing a research infrastructure to transform health care. Learn more about LHSNet.
  • OptumLabs. Mayo Clinic has partnered with Optum, a technology and health services business, to use big data to improve the quality and effectiveness of care. Learn more about OptumLabs.
  • Rochester Epidemiology Project. In collaboration with the Mayo Clinic Kern Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery, the Rochester Epidemiology Project is improving health globally by studying health locally. Learn more about the Rochester Epidemiology Project.
  • Yale University and Mayo Clinic Center for Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSI) program. Mayo Clinic, Yale University, and the Food and Drug Administration have collaborated to create a CERSI program that will advance regulatory science through research, education and scientific exchanges.
