A Non-Invasive Technique for Measuring Tendon Elasticity with Surface Wave Speed for the Patient with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The purpose of this study is to develop a noninvasive way to measure pressure in the carpal tunnel using shear wave elastography (SWE), which may be useful in the diagnosis and assessment of patients with Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS).

Elegibilidad para la participación

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult men and women between age 21 and 80.
  • With a clinical diagnosis of CTS confirmed by electrodiagnostic testing.
  • The patient must have symptoms of numbness or tingling for at least 4 weeks in the median nerve distribution.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Previous carpal tunnel release or other volar wrist surgery on the study hand.
  • Known tumor, mass or deformity of the study hand or wrist.
  • Any of the following clinical diagnoses or conditions:
    • Cervical radiculopathy or other polyneuropathy;
    • Rheumatoid or other inflammatory arthritis;
    • Prisoners;
    • People unable to give informed consent.
    • People unable to complete English-language clinical evaluations.
