The purpose of this study is to contribute to our understanding of the relationships between social media use in adolescents and psychological development, psychiatric comorbidity, and physiological markers of stress. 

Elegibilidad para la participación

Inclusion Criteria

  • Adolescents between the ages of 13 to 17 years
  • Depressed participants will have a diagnosis of major depressive disorder based on a M.I.N.I. KID interview and a QIDS-A17-C score of 11 or higher (moderate to severe symptoms). Healthy control participants will have no psychiatric diagnosis based on a M.I.N.I KID interview and a QIDS-A17-C score of <6.
  • Enrolled in school
  • Adolescent participants must have the capacity to provide informed assent
  • Parents must have the capacity to provide informed consent
  • Willingness and ability to adhere to study procedures
  • Participant will have access to an electronic portable device (e.g. phone, tablet, laptop) with internet capabilities

Exclusion Criteria

  • Steroid based medication (e.g. corticosteroid inhalers in asthmatic)
  • Learning or language difficulties that would limit ability to understand verbal or written English instructions as could negate questionnaire results
  • Imminent suicidal intent
  • Refusal or withdrawal of consent
  • Inability or unwillingness to adhere to study procedures
