A Study of Imaging and Systemic Markers in Patients with Epilepsy

The purpose of this study is to investigate if blood and/or MRI markers of inflammation and immune system activation may show changes in relation to when you have a seizure, and to noninvasively detect seizure related structural and functional alterations in acute seizure by MRI.

Elegibilidad para la participación

Inclusion Criteria:

  1. Adults aged 18 years and older
  2. Confirmed diagnosis of either generalized or partial epilepsy by history, physical, imaging, and/or EEG.
  3. Admission to the epilepsy monitoring unit

Exclusion Criteria:

  1. Under the age of 18
  2. No diagnosis or unconfirmed diagnosis of epilepsy, or clinical history is not consistent with epilepsy
  3. History, signs, or symptoms concerning for or consistent with infection at the time of admission to the epilepsy monitoring unit
  4. History of malignancy currently undergoing suppressive treatment, or active malignancy
  5. Significant anemia with a hemoglobin less than 10 mg/dL, or less than 12 mg/dL in patients with known coronary artery disease
  6. Weight less than 110 lbs.
  7. Blood donation within 8 weeks of epilepsy monitoring unit admission
  8. Pregnancy
  9. Have an implanted device that may be contraindicated for MRI exposure.
