2-D Speckle Tracking in Diagnosis and Prognosis of Acute Myocarditis

In this study, we attempt to evaluate the LV and RV myocardial mechanical properties   in patients with myocarditis during the acute and convalescent phases.

Elegibilidad para la participación

Inclusion Criteria:

Patients admitted with a diagnosis of acute myocarditis or acute cardiomyopathy.

Exclusion Criteria:

Previous CABG, AMI, well-known CAD, heart failure, dilated cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease, or poor echo window

  1. The echocardiographic images from EIMS of patients with acute myocarditis performed in acute and convalescence phase will be analyzed off-line.
  2. LV and RV deformation indices (global and segmental strain and strain rate in three directions [longitudinal, circumferential and radial ]) will be calculated via Syngo Velocity Vector image (VVI) software (Siemens Medical Solution, Malvern, PA).
  3. We will review and analyze the clinical data (such as symptoms, NYHA function class, and routine blood tests for myocarditis), EKG, CMR reports
  4. We will evaluate the diagnostic accuracy and prognostic values of LV and RV deformation and compare with findings of CMR and biopsy reports (when available).
  5. After completing all of the above, we will offer VVI software via 2D speckle tracking technique, as a clinical tool to the clinicians to evaluate its clinical ability in a small sample of patients (n= 30).
