This study is intended to develop and validate a novel wearable dynamic loading assessment tool and to demonstrate the association between the measures from this tool and hip BMD.

Elegibilidad para la participación

Inclusion Criteria

  • Post-menopausal for at least 1 year
  • Willingness to participate in the study
  • Provided informed consent

Exclusion Criteria

  • Less than 2 years (self-reported) of starting, stopping or modifying any osteoporosis treatment such as hormone replacement therapy, PTH, or bisphosphonates, or currently taking prescription medication for BMD improvements or which may result in BMD changes
  • Induced menopause
  • Use of an assistive device while walking, obvious limp while walking, any lower body amputations or orthotics
  • Prolonged bed rest
  • A BMI of greater than 40
  • A history of hip surgery, lower-limb fracture, hip or knee joint replacement on the non-dominant side
  • Have a current lower extremity injury
  • Have undergone chemotherapy, and long-term or current use of corticosteroids, such as prednisone
  • Moderate to severe hip or knee arthritis
  • Self-reported medical conditions that could affect the skeletal system such as diabetes or other diagnosed endocrinological abnormalities, current or prior mental illness or clinical depressions, symptomatic lower body joint abnormalities, medical conditions that may affect balance, traumas requiring medical attention in the last year or any conditions which would preclude completion of physical testing, any symptomatic nervous system or motor skills disorders, Paget’s disease, hyperthyroidism, chronic renal failure, rickets, hypocalcemia, hypercalcemia etc.
  • Self-reported history within the last 5 years of regular participation in impact or jumping exercises or sports (i.e. jogging, running, tennis, softball, basketball, volleyball, skiing etc.).
  • Self-reported current smoker, COPD including severe allergies or asthma
