Family Centered Wellness Coaching Program in Patients at High Risk for Developing Diabetes

To explore the feasibility of conducting a family centered wellness coaching program for patients at high risk for developing diabetes, in a primary care setting.

  1. To determine engagement patterns.

  2. To describe characteristics of families who are likely to participate.

  3. To identify barriers/limitations to family centered wellness coaching.

    To assess whether a family centered 8 week wellness coaching intervention for primary care patients at high risk for diabetes will improve self-care behaviors as measured by self-reported changes in physical activity level and food choices.

Elegibilidad para la participación

Inclusion criteria

(1) Family with at least one child age 1 to <13.

(2) One child who is overweight or obese. Body mass index (BMI) is a measure used to determine childhood overweight and obesity. Overweight is defined as a BMI at or above the 85th percentile and below the 95th percentile for children and teens of the same age and sex. Obesity is defined as a BMI at or above the 95th percentile for children and teens of the same age and sex

(3) Parent in charge of preparing family meals and organizing activities is able to participate fully in all aspects of the study

(4) Parent is able to provide informed consent

 

Exclusion criteria

(1) Do not read and speak English

(2) Has cognitive impairment
