A Study of the Experience of Physical Therapy for Older Adults after Having a Fall Causing Serious Injuring Requiring Hospitalization

The purpose of this study is to understand the lived experience of physical therapy rehabilitation for older adults after being seriously injured by a fall, requiring hospitalization.

 

Elegibilidad para la participación

Los requisitos de elegibilidad de los participantes incluyen la edad, el sexo, el tipo y el estadio de la enfermedad, y los problemas de salud o tratamientos previos. Inclusion Criteria

  • 65 years and older
  • Has been hospitalized for an injurious fall and received physical therapy rehabilitation services for that condition
    • The injurious fall and hospitalization occurred within three years of study enrollment
  • Can be residing in their own home, with a caregiver/family member, or in an assistive living and/or skilled nursing environment
  • Must be able to verbalize their experience in English either via a face to face interview or through telephone interview
  • Must have capacity to hear and understand the study and give informed consent

Exclusion Criteria 

  • Unable to answer “yes” to all questions on the Mayo Clinic IRB’s  Informed Consent for Research A Guide to Assessing a Participant’s Understanding
  • Cannot recall receiving physical therapy services for fall related injury
