Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for the Certificate Program in clinical and translational science, you must:

• Be employed at Mayo Clinic.
  • Your appointment, which is documented at the time you apply, must be of sufficient length to allow for completion of all requirements of the program.
  • If you have a confirmed appointment but are not yet working at Mayo Clinic, you may apply as long as you include documentation of your appointment with your application.
  • Visiting research fellows are eligible.
  • Visiting clinicians and research trainees are not eligible.
  • Candidates for the Certificate Program must complete a minimum period of six months in residence after admission to the program.
• Have a doctoral degree in a discipline applicable to clinical research.
  • These degrees include M.D.; Ph.D.; M.B.B.S.; M.B.; Ch.B.; Dr. P.H.; D.O.; D.D.S.; D.M.D.; O.D.; D.C.; Pharm.D.; and Psy.D., though others may be considered.
  • In addition to clinicians, also encouraged to apply are biostatisticians, epidemiologists, behavioral scientists and nurses with doctoral degrees. Preference is given to applicants with a doctoral GPA of greater than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Up to six credits taken at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences can be completed prior to program admission. If more than six credits have been taken, they may not count toward program completion.
• Identify a mentor.
  • This must be an investigator at Mayo Clinic with extensive clinical or translational research experience.
• Be pursuing a clinical and translational research project that will lead to improvements in human health. This includes:
  • Epidemiological and natural history studies.
  • Translational research.
  • Patient-oriented research.
  • Clinical trials.
  • Outcomes research.
