A Study of DNA/RNA Sequencing Results on the Clinical Management of Patients with Advanced Malignancies Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to assess practice patterns and changes in treatment recommendations based on the results obtained from a clinically available, comprehensive next generation DNA/RNA sequencing assay. A database of paired clinical and sequencing data will also be established for future research. Mayo Clinic Cancer Center Neuro-Oncology Program Registry and Biobank for the Study of Nervous System Tumors Rochester, Minn. Biospecimen banks are a modern attempt to centralize collections of human blood and tissue samples along with health information and personal history. The Neuro-Oncology Program Registry and Biobank will be used for research purposes to increase our understanding of nervous system tumors. Gynecologic Extramammary Paget's Disease Rochester, Minn. In addition to evaluating treatment outcomes, tissue samples and swabs will be collected as part of this study to allow physicians to better understand Extramammary Paget's Disease (EMPD). The researchers also want to learn more about the microorganisms (microbiome) that live on or near the areas of skin affected by EMPD, in order to better understand this condition. Minimally Invasive Molecular Approaches for the Diagnosis of Barrett's Esophagus and Esophageal Adenocarcinoma Rochester, Minn., Mankato, Minn., La Crosse, Wis., Jacksonville, Fla., Eau Claire, Wis., Austin, Minn., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. This study will evaluate if the sponge capsule device can accurately detect the presence of Barrett's Esophagus and prevalent dysplasia/adenocarcinoma detection, in a screening population, with and without chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease. Clinical and Epidemiological Studies in Pediatric Malignancies Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to establish a bank of tissue, stool, and blood from pediatric participants newly diagnosed with a malignancy for future studies. Ventricular Remodeling and Myocardial Deformation in Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy for Sarcomas Rochester, Minn. The aim of this study is to determine if there is subclinical systolic or diastolic myocardial mechanical dysfunction by 2D and 3D speckle tracking echocardiography derived strain and strain rate in this patient population at baseline, during and after chemotherapy. This could be an early marker of myocardial dysfunction in patients treated for sarcoma. Treating Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Trastuzumab Treatment with Carvedilol to Reduce Incidence of Heart Failure Rochester, Minn., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz., Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to evaluate different strategies of cardiovascular therapy with Carvedilol, aiming to reduce the incidence of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) decline and heart failure (HF) in patients undergoing curative intent Trastuzumab for breast cancer. . Trans-Pacific Multicenter Collaborative Study of Minimally Invasive Proximal Versus Total Gastrectomy for Proximal Gastric and Gastroesophageal Junction Cancers Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to compare the symptoms of patients who have a MIPG to the symptoms of patients who have a MITG. A Study of 9-ING-41 in Patients with Advanced Cancers Rochester, Minn., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of 9-ING-41, a potent GSK-3β inhibitor, as a single agent and in combination with cytotoxic agents, in patients with refractory cancers. GSK-3β is a potentially important therapeutic target in human malignancies. VG161 in the Treatment of Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma or Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma Rochester, Minn., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz., Jacksonville, Fla. The primary objectie of Safety Run-In Cohort (Cohort 1) is to evaluate the safety and tolerability of multiple intratumoral injections (IT) of VG161 at the recommendated Phase 2 Dose (RP2D) in patients with HCC and ICC who have either disease progression or intolerable toxicity after the standard treatments. The primary objective of HCC Cohort (Cohort 2) is to evaluate the efficacy of multiple IT injections of VG161 in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The primary objective of ICC Cohort (Cohort 3) is to evaluate the efficacy of multiple IT injections of VG161 in patients with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
