Astrocytes and oligodendrocytes control neural health, plasticity and regeneration
Glial cells, including astrocytes (red) and oligodendrocytes (green), play key roles in regulating brain function and its response to injury. Dr. Scarisbrick's lab studies how astrocyte and oligodendrocyte metabolic activities are altered in CNS injury and disease and how this impacts nerve function. With this knowledge, Dr. Scarisbrick's team is developing new pharmacologic, cellular and rehabilitation interventions to modulate function of these cells to promote neural plasticity and repair.
