Zheng.Gang@mayo.edu Clinical Profile

SUMMARY

Gang Zheng, M.D., Ph.D., is board certified in both molecular pathology and hematopathology. His clinical and research interests include implementing cutting-edge molecular technologies in clinical diagnostics of cancer and applying data mining to integrate genomic, morphologic and clinical data for better clinical interpretation of molecular tests.

Focus areas

  • Dr. Zheng is focused on implementing cutting-edge molecular technologies in clinical diagnostics — including circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) cancer tests based on next-generation sequencing — and on understanding the clinical utility of genomics and epigenetic markers.
  • He is using data mining to improve genomics data interpretation and identify clinically relevant disease entities based on genomic markers.

Significance to patient care

The study of disease on the molecular level (molecular pathology) is intimately related to precision medicine. Molecular pathology provides important diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic information to guide treatment for patients with cancer.
