SUMMARY

The research of Louis M. Wong Kee Song, M.D., explores the development and application of advanced endoscopic resection techniques for the removal of polyps and early cancers throughout the gastrointestinal tract. Dr. Wong Kee Song also focuses on minimally invasive endoscopic treatment of gastrointestinal subepithelial tumors, achalasia and gastroparesis.

He researches the application of new devices and techniques for complex endoscopy and to treat gastrointestinal bleeding.

Focus areas

  • Advanced endoscopic resection. Dr. Wong Kee Song is focused on the development and application of endoscopic devices and techniques for the removal of benign polyps, tumors and early cancers in the gastrointestinal tract. These endoscopic devices and techniques are also used for mucosal resection, endoscopic submucosal dissection, endoscopic full thickness resection and endoluminal robotic endoscopy.
  • Third-space endoscopy. He is particularly interested in the application and outcomes of third-space endoscopic procedures, including peroral endoscopic myotomy and submucosal tunneling endoscopic resection. These endoscopic procedures are used for the treatment of Zenker's diverticulum, achalasia, gastroparesis and gastrointestinal stromal tumors.
  • Endoscopic hemostasis. Dr. Wong Kee Song studies the application of new techniques such as hemostatic sprays, electroporation, radiofrequency ablation and endoscopic suturing for the treatment of bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Wong Kee Song's eventual goal is to offer minimally invasive endoscopic approaches in a safe and effective way, for a variety of gastrointestinal conditions, which would otherwise need invasive surgical intervention.
