SUMMARY

Dr. Williams is interested in research which may have fairly immediate clinical application in improving the mental health patient care.

Focus areas

Currently Dr. Williams is involved in testing and developing collaborative models of care with primary care, and in developing and refining our use of screening instruments (the PHQ-9, MDQ, etc).

He has an interest in the interface between primary care and mental health, and projects on depression, prevention in psychiatry, meaningful outcome measures for mental health outpatient treatment, and on population-based approaches to mental health issues.

Dr. Williams is currently working with a national group of researchers on implementation of a care management model for patients comorbid with depression and diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
