The research of David L. Swanson, M.D., primarily involves the use of noninvasive imaging devices for the diagnosis of skin diseases.

Focus areas

  • Melanoma screening. Dr. Swanson's current focus area is a collaborative effort to develop an effective, affordable technology for the automated screening of suspicious pigmented lesions for the presence of melanoma.

Significance to patient care

The screening technology under investigation, if successful in implementation, has the potential to save lives by making reliable screening for melanoma available to the public, including in underserved areas of the world.
