SUMMARY

Phillip J. Schulte, Ph.D., is a biostatistician engaged in active collaborations with clinical researchers. He helps plan, analyze and disseminate results of observational clinical studies and registries as well as randomized clinical trials.

Dr. Schulte's collaborative interests include, but are not limited to, cardiology, urology and anesthesiology. Additionally, he develops statistical methodologies that are applicable to his collaborations and applies advanced statistical methods in novel clinical contexts.

Focus areas

  • Medical collaboration. Dr. Schulte collaborates with a diverse group of clinical investigators to ensure proper study design and analysis. He's especially interested in observational studies focusing on comparative effectiveness research, patient-centered outcomes, estimation of optimal treatment regimes and precision medicine.
  • Statistical methodology research. Dr. Schulte actively studies new methods and approaches to statistical issues arising out of collaborations.

Significance to patient care

The use of appropriate statistical methods in clinical research improves the quality of evidence available to patients, caregivers and health care providers when making care decisions. Further, ensuring correct methodology is applied throughout the entire course of a study, from initial design through publication, supports accurate and reproducible science. When necessary, Dr. Schulte develops and applies advanced or sophisticated methods to address well-defined and clinically relevant hypotheses that might otherwise go unexplored.
