SUMMARY

Yuri A. Saito Loftus, M.D., is engaged in clinical care of patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and other gastrointestinal motility disorders. She has an active research program studying patients with IBS, constipation and diarrhea.

Focus areas

Dr. Saito's patient-oriented research centers on studying:

  • Genetic and environmental contributors to IBS.
  • Patient education, diet and nutritional factors, and treatment efficacy in patients with IBS.

Significance to patient care

The ultimate goal of Dr. Saito's research program is to better understand the mechanisms underlying IBS so that scientists can identify and create better diagnostic tests and treatments.
