SUMMARY

The research of Lila J. Rutten, Ph.D., examines social and behavioral factors related to cancer prevention and control. Dr. Rutten focuses on implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based cancer prevention and control strategies to improve population health.

Focus areas

  • Social and behavioral epidemiological research to characterize population adoption of cancer prevention and screening services and to identify populations at risk.
  • Survey research to ascertain multilevel factors associated with population and health care provider adherence to cancer prevention and control recommendations.
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of multilevel interventions informed by behavioral theory to improve population adoption of cancer prevention and control services.
  • Content areas of specific focus include HPV vaccination and evidence-based cancer screening including breast, cervical and colorectal cancer screening.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Rutten's research program involves pragmatic trials to evaluate the implementation and impact of evidence-based cancer prevention and control strategies in clinical practice. This work serves to improve patient adoption and adherence to cancer prevention and screening recommendations.
