Razonable.Raymund@mayo.edu Clinical Profile

SUMMARY

Raymund R. Razonable, M.D., is an infectious disease specialist who also researches infectious diseases. His specific research interests are infections related to transplant, viral infections and cytomegalovirus. Dr. Razonable's research includes translational and clinical research on the epidemiology, risk factors, treatment and outcomes of cytomegalovirus and other infections affecting recipients of transplants. He also is interested in medical education and orthopedic infections.

Focus areas

  • Transplant-related infectious diseases.
  • Clinical virology.
  • Infection and immunity.

Significance to patient care

Because they're immunosuppressed, transplant recipients have a high risk of infections. Infections contribute to significant morbidity and mortality in people who have had a transplant. Cytomegalovirus is one of the main infection risks. It can cause clinical disease that leads to poor allograft and survival. Dr. Razonable conducts research to broaden the understanding of these opportunistic infections. His hope is that better knowledge will lead to improved clinical recognition, diagnosis, prevention and treatment — eventually improving outcomes for transplant recipients.
