SUMMARY

Surakit Pungpapong, M.D., studies viral hepatitis, both hepatitis B and C, and liver transplantation from the multiple viewpoints of epidemiology, natural history, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. His research focuses include noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis from viral hepatitis using serum markers and novel imaging technology such as magnetic resonance elastography; treatment of viral hepatitis before and after liver transplantation; impact of viral hepatitis on the outcome of liver transplantation; and how to improve the short-term and long-term outcomes of liver transplantation in patients with viral hepatitis.
