Trevanne R. Matthews Hew, M.D., is a practicing hematologist and oncologist at Mayo Clinic who also is active in research. Her research interests include genetics, environmental factors affecting disease and health disparity, especially in prostate cancer. Dr. Matthews Hew publishes research findings in high-impact scientific journals and presents her research at education seminars. Education is a main interest, too, along with providing mentorship to residents and fellows.

Dr. Matthews Hew hopes her research on health disparities positively impacts the lives of patients, young leaders and the community as a whole. Dr. Matthews Hew combines her research interests with engagement in community outreach programs to educate health care providers and the public about cancer risks and health care disparities. She is involved in the Prostate Cancer Transatlantic Consortium, the Clinical Cancer Genomics Community of Practice and the Inclusive Cancer Care Research Equity (iCCaRE) for Black Men Consortium. Her overall goal is increasing health care equity for people with all types of cancer.
