SUMMARY
The overall research goal of Nandita Khera, M.D., M.P.H., is to design and evaluate strategies to help improve the delivery of care to cancer patients, especially those undergoing stem cell transplant.
Dr. Khera studies psychosocial and financial outcomes of cancer treatment, especially in survivors with diverse socioeconomic, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. This is an emerging priority area for survivorship research and clinical care.
Focus areas
- To study actual and perceived financial burden from medical and nonmedical costs arising from cancer treatments and its impact on quality of life, distress and health behaviors
- To understand and address the disparities in access, treatment and outcomes of patients needing stem cell transplant
- To help improve health care delivery for survivors of cancer treatment, including those who have undergone stem cell transplant
Significance to patient care
The goal of Dr. Khera's research is to better inform and prepare patients for the psychosocial and financial consequences of the treatment irrespective of their sociodemographic profile.
Dr. Khera designs intervention studies to help minimize health disparities and improve the clinical and psychosocial outcomes for a wider range of patients with cancer through tailored survivorship care.
