SUMMARY

Nenad O. Juranic, Ph.D., conducts research in structural biology, computational biology, metabolomics and proteomics.

Focus areas

  • Dynamic metabolomic profiling and determination of phosphometabolite turnover rates. Phosphometabolites are a major class of metabolites, and their levels and turnover rates are the most sensitive indicators of body energy and metabolic imbalances created by diverse causes, such as genetic deficiencies, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer and obesity.

Dr. Juranic's in-depth knowledge of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is enabling the design and implementation of very advanced and complex NMR experiments, such as those needed in proteomics and metabolomics.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Juranic's research will develop algorithms, which will be usable in clinical practice, that correlate patterns of metabolomic changes with disease risk, progression and response to treatment.
