SUMMARY

Lyell K. Jones Jr., M.D., focuses on health systems research, specifically how quantitative measures of quality and value impact health outcomes. Dr. Jones' work includes the development, implementation and refinement of quality improvement tools in neurological practice. He also has research interests in medical education and clinical neuromuscular topics.

Focus areas

  • Implementation of a national neurology quality database. Dr. Jones' group led the development and implementation of a national specialty quality improvement resource, including system validation and initial descriptions of national quality and disparities of care in neurology.
  • Qualitative value assessments. Dr. Jones has authored policy analyses in health care economics and how they impact patients and health care delivery.
  • Education assessment and outcomes research. Dr. Jones has developed and validated neurological education assessment systems. He is currently examining how assessment systems relate to clinical outcomes of care.

Significance to patient care

As the U.S. health care system evolves to incorporate new technology and responses to systemic economic pressures, examination of how policy implementation affects patient care is critically important. The group led by Dr. Jones is focused on pursuing improved and equitable clinical outcomes of neurological care and ensuring that implementation of health care policy remains patient centered.
