SUMMARY

The research interests of Hang Joon Jo, Ph.D., M.S., focus on neurological and psychiatric disorders that cause a substantial socioeconomic burden to society. Dr. Jo uses a combination of neuroimaging, biosignal analysis and machine learning to identify therapeutic targets for a variety of these disorders.

Focus areas

  • Discovery of imaging biomarkers of neurological diseases. Dr. Jo focuses on identifying underlying mechanisms and representative biomarkers of brain-related diseases by using cutting-edge imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging, positron emission tomography and electroencephalography.
  • Brain stimulation for epilepsy and movement disorders. Dr. Jo is particularly interested in the therapeutic and adverse effects and the neuroscientific mechanisms of brain stimulation to relieve the major symptoms of neurological disorders.

Dr. Jo collaborates with the following Mayo Clinic investigators:

Significance to patient care

Neuroimaging and biosignaling enable the quantitative analyses of therapeutic and adverse effects of neurological treatments. Dr. Jo's ultimate goal is to translate the results of his research into clinical practice. Dr. Jo focuses on the development of new imaging and analysis techniques to identify quantified biomarkers for neurological and psychiatric diseases to optimize diagnostic and therapeutic processes.
