SUMMARY

Melissa P. Hake, P.T., DScPT, performs research to help ensure that future physical therapists are competent practitioners when caring for hospitalized patients and those with complex medical conditions.

Focus areas

  • Student preparation for acute care settings. Dr. Hake studies the perceptions and performance of physical therapy students completing clinical education experiences in hospital settings.
  • Rehabilitation needs of cancer survivors. Dr. Hake is interested in understanding the special rehabilitation needs of cancer survivors, particularly those who have received stem cell transplants.

Significance to patient care

The knowledge gained from Dr. Hake's research can be used to develop educational strategies that will ensure that future physical therapists are competent in caring for patients in the hospital and can meet the needs of patients with complex medical conditions.
