SUMMARY

The research interests of Jonathan L. Carter, M.D., include clinical trials to develop new therapies for multiple sclerosis (MS), the diagnosis and treatment of neuromyelitis optica and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), and diagnostic errors and mimics of MS. Dr. Carter also has done research on therapies to relieve MS symptoms.

Focus areas

• MS clinical trials. Dr. Carter is currently completing a long-term study of ocrelizumab as a treatment for primary progressive MS. Other MS clinical trials are in the planning stages.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Carter's research has included participating in MS clinical trials that have led to the approval of many of the disease-modifying therapies currently available for MS. Also, he has been involved in trials for therapies approved to ease the burden of symptoms in patients with MS.
