SUMMARY

Melanie C. Bois, M.D., studies the pathology of cardiovascular diseases and their manifestations. Her research extends to both clinical (surgical) and postmortem settings and includes the epidemiology, underlying pathogenesis and genetic factors that influence acquired cardiovascular pathology.

Focus areas

  • Cardiac neoplasia, including the molecular underpinnings of cardiac tumors such as papillary fibroelastoma and cardiac myxoma, with an aim to understand genetic predisposition and potential therapies therein
  • Cardiac amyloidosis, proteomic and histopathologic characterization
  • Valvular disease, including primary and secondary etiologies
  • Cardiomyopathy and cardiotoxicity genotypic and phenotypic correlations

Significance to patient care

Dr. Bois aims to research issues that will shed new light on our current understanding of cardiovascular disease, with the aspiration of positively influencing patient management, screening and treatment strategies.
