Dr. Bodiford's long-term research goals are to enhance the understanding of and expand treatments for a variety of skin and mucosal conditions.

Focus areas

  • Regenerative therapies in skin and mucosal disease. Dr. Bodiford is conducting a clinical trial investigating the use of platelet-rich plasma for the treatment of vulvar lichen sclerosus, a chronic inflammatory condition affecting many women. Dr. Bodiford hopes to expand the treatment options available to patients with vulvar lichen sclerosus to improve their quality of life. Dr. Bodiford has examined the occurrence of coexistent oral lichen planus and vulvar lichen sclerosus, two separate mucosal conditions, to better understand the interplay of these two conditions and patients' general health. Dr. Bodiford also is interested in oral manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and has conducted research to better understand the role that oral disease plays in the diagnosis and management of patients with IBD.

Significance to patient care

Dr. Bodiford's research strives to provide information to patients and clinicians about a variety of dermatologic and mucosal conditions. She hopes to expand the knowledge of how skin and mucosal disease relates to general health and to develop new regenerative therapies that will benefit patients with these diseases.
