Semirra L. Bayan, M.D., studies diseases that impact the voice and airway. She conducts clinical research that emphasizes multidisciplinary collaboration to improve outcomes for patients undergoing laryngeal surgery.

Focus areas

  • Quality improvement in laryngology. Dr. Bayan collaborates with colleagues in speech and language pathology to study how procedures such as flexible and direct laryngoscopy can be made more comfortable and safer for patients.
  • Subglottic stenosis. Dr. Bayan is part of a large multi-institutional study evaluating different surgical approaches to subglottic stenosis and inflammatory markers contributing to disease.
  • Novel treatments for voice disorders. Dr. Bayan collaborates with colleagues in speech and language pathology, neurology, and pulmonology to find new and innovative ways to treat patients with a variety of voice disorders.
