Divisions

Research in the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences is coordinated in and between three distinct divisions and a biomedical ethics section, which partner with investigators to provide resources, assistance and collaborations for the research process.

Division of Clinical Trials and Biostatistics. The division provides high-value analytical collaborations and research services to Mayo Clinic investigators with the overall goal of improving human health. This is accomplished by providing statistical support to and collaboration with investigators within and outside of Mayo Clinic on thousands of active projects. These cover a wide range of disciplines including cancer, Alzheimer's disease, respiratory, cardiology, neurology, radiology, surgery, anesthesiology, nursing, and laboratory medicine and pathology. Division staff members develop, maintain, and promote state-of-the-art designs and analytical methods expertise and are active in multiple initiatives surrounding study designs, data acquisition, data management, analyses and interpretation.

Division of Computational Biology. Advancing biomedical discovery and translational medical research through the application of statistical genomics and bioinformatics methods is the mission of Mayo Clinic's Division of Computational Biology. The division develops and applies innovative computational biology techniques for biomedical discovery and translational research across a range of medical conditions. Through methodological innovation, building highly interactive collaborations across disciplines and providing research services to Mayo Clinic investigators, computational biology members use data-driven methods to improve human health.

Division of Epidemiology. The goal of the division is to contribute to Mayo Clinic's research, clinical and educational missions through the initiation and conduct of clinically relevant, translational epidemiological studies among Olmsted County residents, Mayo Clinic patients and other populations. This mission is consistent with that of Mayo Clinic to inspire hope, contribute to health and well-being, and provide the best care to every patient through integrated clinical practice, education and research.

Section of Biomedical Ethics. Faculty members conduct research that examines the values and attitudes of patients and other stakeholders in the adoption of new technologies and advances in medicine. They are also members of the Clinical and Translational Research Ethics Consultation (ClinTREC) service, which is part of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS). Faculty members teach biomedical ethics courses at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and offer a concentration in Biomedical Ethics in the Postdoctoral Master's Degree Program and lead community outreach activities in biomedical ethics.
