Staff and Patient Perspectives of Abortion Clinic Closures

About this study

The purpose of this study is to try and understand how abortion clinics, health care providers, abortion seekers, and patients respond to regulatory restrictions and what policies, laws, and regulations contribute to clinic closures and changes in abortion care delivery in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, New York, and Texas.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Staff from abortion clinics that have closed in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia since 2010.
  • Current and former staff from clinics that remain operational in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Texas, New York, and Pennsylvania.
  • Clinic attorneys, patient escorts, abortion fund representatives, or would-be patients and patients from clinics that close or limit abortion care delivery in Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia during the study period.
  • Patients who are over the age of 18.
  • Patients who speak English sufficiently to participate in interviews.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Individuals who have never worked in, volunteered for, or sought abortion care at an abortion clinic in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, or Texas.
  • Individuals who are under the age of 18.
  • Individuals who do not speak English.
