Identifying Pancreatic Cancer Risk Factor in Electronic Medical Records Using Natural Language Processing Algorithms

About this study

The objective of this study is to measure real-world recall and precision of Natural Language Processing (NLP) algorithms in identifying the presence of known risk factors for Pancreatic (PDAC) in a defined primary care population using unstructured clinical notes.

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria - Primary Care Patient Cohort:

  • All adult patients ≥ 18 years of age currently in the panel for participating Family Medicine providers within the Mayo Clinic Family Practice.
  • Valid MN research authorization.

Exclusion Criteria:

  • Age < 18 years of age.

Inclusion Criteria - Family Practice Provider Cohort:

  • Mayo Clinic Family Practice providers.

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Not willing to provide consent.
